Canary Archipelago: These places to practice windsurfing, kite, boydboard, kayak...

Located off the coast of Morocco, the Canary archipelago is composed of seven islands whose coasts are perfect for water sports.

It was in the 1970's that the first surfers discovered the Canary Islands' perfect spots for the practice of their discipline. It must be said that with a water temperature of around 21 degrees all year round and an omnipresent sunshine, the conditions are ideal to go in the water and practice a multitude of water sports, whether surfing, windsurfing, boardyboarding or kitesurfing. Snorkeling, scuba diving and kayaking also find a perfect environment for their practice.

On the competitive side, numerous international championships are held here, such as the La Santa spot on Lanzarote, which hosts the Islas Canarias Santa Pro event. The island of Tenerife hosts the annual Punta Blanca Young Series competition. Windsurfing and kitesurfing are not to be outdone, with several PWA World Championship events held at Pozo Izquierdo and Vecindario on Gran Canaria. La Cícer, on Las Canteras beach, hosts the LPA Surf City Open, the final event of the national circuit which crowns the male and female champions of the FESurfing and Iberdrola leagues. Finally, windsurfing is also king on Fuerteventura, with the Fuerteventura Grand Slam, recognized as one of the world's greatest competitions. It has been held in the Canary Islands for over 30 years in the Playas de Jandia area. Below is a list of the best watersports spots in the Canary archipelago, by discipline.
