Montagne en Scène: Mountaineering, climbing and caving on the Summer Edition

This year's 22nd edition of Montagne en Scène will take place in over 250 towns and 22 countries worldwide, from April 8 to early May. This year's edition will focus on three disciplines.

Montagne en Scène, a benchmark festival now offering both a winter and a summer version, returns this year for its 22nd edition. For this Summer Edition, four films are on the program, and mountaineering is obviously on the agenda, while climbing also plays an important part in this 2024 edition. Discover the program and films below, as well as all the cities and cinemas that will be screening these productions at this address.

BLUE IN THE SKIN

Running time: 35 minutes (VOFR)
Directed by Jérôme TANON
With : Seb Berthe and Hugo Parmentier

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the first 7a in Fontainebleau, Seb Berthe and Hugo Parmentier have set themselves quite a challenge: to climb 100 boulders with 7a sides in a single day, linking the sectors by bike or on foot. An extraordinary journey of over 80 km through the magic forest! And an extraordinary feat when you consider how demanding these boulders are. Scrapers, rulers, zippers, but above all a magnificent human adventure, sublimated by the poetry of director Jérôme Tanon. Majeur.

SUBTERRANEAN

Running time: 43 minutes (VO ss FR)
Directed by François-Xavier de RUYDTS
With : Franck Tuot

Could caving be one of the last areas of true exploration on earth? Hidden from the gaze of satellites, underground networks are an infinite playground for adventure enthusiasts. In British Columbia, Franck Tuot and his team have a fixed idea: to discover the largest cave in Canada by linking different networks of galleries. Between personal sacrifice, success and disillusionment, how far are they prepared to go to achieve their goals? One thing is certain: for these intrepid personalities, the only direction is into the depths.

SEA TO SUMMIT

Running time: 38 minutes (VOFR)
Directed by Alastair LEE
With : Bronwyn Hogins and Jacob Cook

A memorable story in the heart of Greenland!
Join Bronwyn Hodgins and Jacob Cook on an incredible adventure. Over 400 km of kayaking in the middle of the Arctic, with its icebergs and whales, to reach and climb a virgin 800m big wall. A tough goal and capricious weather, but a great atmosphere and breathtaking scenery!
Pure inspiration.

DEEP FREEZE

Running time: 45 minutes (VOFR)
Director: Yannick BOISSENOT
With : Charles Dubouloz, Symon Welfringer, Clovis Paulin

37 years ago, Patrick Gabarrou and Hervé Bouvard braved the impossible when they opened the Directissime de la Walker on the north face of the Grandes Jorasses. No climber has managed to repeat this route until February 2023. Charles Dubouloz, Symon Welfringer and Clovis Paulin undertook the ascent of this face, adding an extra difficulty: making the first free ascent in winter. Welcome to the icy world of the unknown!
