Having stayed in El Salvador after the ISA World Championships, Johanne Defay followed up with the seventh stage of the World Surfing Championships, also held in this small Central American country. The Private Sport Shop ambassador took the opportunity to explore the beauty of El Salvador with her coach and partner Simon Paillard. In sporting terms, the French surfer finished ninth in the Salvadorian event, ranking 11th in the world rankings, before heading to Brazil for the next stage of the competition, scheduled for Saquarema. But although the waiting period got off to a good start on June 23, this Vivo Rio Pro event dragged on, due to the lack of waves on the Brazilian spot. The eighth stage of the World Championship was thus marked by six days off in a row. An opportunity for World Tour members to take a break from surfing. "Saquarema is a two-hour drive north of Rio," explains Johanne. "It's a nice village, but above all, it has a magnificent beach! I was staying for the event with Carissa Moore, Gabriella Bryan, Ryan Callinan, Calum Robson and Connor O'leary. So cool to share a little more time out of the water. My mom, Josée, found me for this Brazilian leg, as usual. We had a great time, especially cooking pao de queijo.
