MILLET COSMIC backpack: the ultimate ally for adventure (TEST)

When it comes to choosing a freeride backpack, every detail counts. Comfort, ergonomics and lightness are essential criteria for all outdoor enthusiasts. With its new model COSMIC, Millet promises a perfect blend of functionality and sturdiness.

To check its performance in the field, Baptiste Baudrya high-altitude guide, passionate freerider and athlete supported by Private Sport Shop, tested it during his latest outings at altitude. The verdict?

The 20-liter COSMIC rucksack is a freeride bag designed for day outings, with plenty of accessories. Its volume allows you to carry all the essentials without taking up too much space. Its large, sturdy design, in recycled 100% nylon, waterproof and water-repellent, ensures stability and resistance for one powder turn after another. Versatile, it's ideal for carrying skis, poles, snowboard, ice axes, helmet and hydration system.

Its main advantage? A dorsal zip which gives direct access to the entire contents of the bag, is a real plus, even if I would have liked it to go down a little further. But it's still very practical! And best of all, you can access it even when your skis are attached.

There's also a dedicated compartment for safety gear (shovel and probe). Despite the small flaw I find in it (see below).

I find the COSMIC is a freeride backpack designed for those looking for a functional, comfortable pack capable of keeping pace on both challenging descents and leisurely climbs.

From the very first freeride descents, the bag makes you forget you're wearing it, and it's very comfortable. Wide shoulder straps and padded waist belt provide excellent support and fit. When freeriding, the bag sits snugly on the back and doesn't impede movement - a real plus!

The two pockets on the hip belt are also a strong point: they provide quick access to cereal bars or the telephone, for example.

In short, this is the perfect bag for freeride days or all-day touring. Practical and comfortable, it doesn't get in the way and lets you hit the powder!

With sturdy, water-repellent materialsThe bag is weatherproof and rock-resistant. Its compartment safety allows you to store your shovel and probe, although I did notice one small flaw. In fact, the two little straps sewn to hold the probe and shovel handle can, on rare occasions, trap the probe segments. A deeper sewn pocket would perhaps be more practical and safer.

After several freeride sessions, the COSMIC convinced me with its comfort and practicality. Its support is excellent, even on steep descents, and the back zipper makes access to gear a breeze. Although an improved safety pocket would be a plus, this bag ticks all the boxes for a successful mountain outing. An ideal companion for those looking for a reliable, well-designed bag!

After numerous field tests, I validate the COSMIC from Millet. It ticks all the boxes of the perfect freeride backpack: comfort, support, organization and sturdiness.
