Productions competing at the Paris Surf & Skateboard Film Festival

From September 21 to 24, the eighth edition of the Paris Surf & Skateboard Film Festival takes place at l'Entrepôt in the 14th arrondissement. Here are the films on the program.

Celebrating surf and skate culture, this festival has become a key event at the start of every new school year. This year, from September 21 to 24, the eighth edition of the Paris Surf & Skateboard Film Festival. The program includes three short film screenings (compared with two last year) at the Entrepôt in Paris's 14th arrondissement, with productions taking viewers to South Africa, Ireland, Denmark, the USA, Holland, Sweden, England, Morocco and elsewhere. Lands End

British skateboarder Barney Page takes us on an emotional journey as he skateboards across the British Isles to honor the memory of his friend Ben Raemers. Lands End Full seeks to shed light on the taboo of suicide, and proposes a reflection to change mentalities about mental illness.

The earth is narrow to us

Karam is a surfer in a land without waves. He'd like to surf, but the swell is rarely there. He'd like to leave the country, but his visa applications are all denied. So he skates and waits for something to change his life. Today, in the midst of a political, economic and health crisis, Karam has realized that he needs to get involved in rebuilding his country, Lebanon.

"Between 2009 and 2011, I filmed and edited Nassim Lachhab's very first skateboard videos in Rabat, Morocco. In 2020, after living between France and Spain, Nassim became the first Moroccan and African professional skateboarder in the world. Since then, I've never stopped to wonder: how did Nassim experience his rise to the forefront of the international skateboarding scene in parallel with his journey as an emigrant? How does his unprecedented trajectory resonate with current issues on the Moroccan scene?"

Wade in the Water

This documentary tells the age-old story of Black Surfing. Combining historical accounts with contemporary testimonies, the film breaks down the racial barriers of conventional surf culture. An immersion in the little-known history of Black Surfing that pays homage to its current movement while seeking to inspire the new generation of Black surfers.

Keep it A Secret

In the early 70s, when Irish waves were still unknown to international surfers, surfing pioneers from Dublin and Belfast helped each other host the 1972 Eurosurf Championships, despite the political strife of the time. This film tells the little-known story of the Emerald Isle's now world-renowned surf scene, and highlights the unifying power of the sport.
