It is probably the most prestigious outdoor sports photo contest on the planet. Every three years, the Red Bull Illume rewards the best photographers. The last edition was again up to the mark.
It's a contest that outdoor sports enthusiasts and imaging professionals alike are looking forward to. The Red Bull Illume invites photographers from all over the world to send in their best shots for a chance to win the contest's most prestigious prize, the "Masterpiece by SanDisk Professional" category. And this year, American Will Sanders won with the shot below of climber Jake Talley descending a gigantic cliff at Indian Creek in Utah.
"I asked Jake to move in a way that amplified his fall rather than the traditional down the cliff" details the American photographer. "It allowed me to capture a photo that stands out among the usual climbing images."
The last edition of the contest has again required a lot of work from the jury (composed of 53 experts) who had to select the most beautiful pictures among 41 447 images received from all over the world (the contest is open to amateur and professional photographers). A lot of hard work was needed to sort out the thousands of photos. The Red Bull Illume contest exists since 2006 and was created by the photographer Ulrich Grill.
