Johanne Defay: Between English artificial waves, a stint at INSEP and recovery on Reunion Island

In the last two episodes of her "With Jojo" series, the Private Sport Shop ambassador goes from one destination to another. From the Wavegarden in Bristol, England, to a visit to the INSEP, the Réunionese has had a busy off-season.

While the 2023 World Surfing Championship came to a close at the beginning of September with the finals at Trestles, Johanne Defay (who finished 11th in the WSL rankings this season) has continued her travels around the globe in recent weeks with a busy schedule. As part of the last two issues of her "With Jojo" series (in "off season" mode), the Frenchwoman takes us with her to England in the first episode below.

After spending a few days in La Réunion, which went by at breakneck speed, I joined part of the O'Neill team for their "Rookies Rippers" event," explains Johanne. "An event especially for young European surfers organized at the Wavegarden in Bristol, England: whoever achieves the best performance over the three days wins a year's sponsorship! The young surfers competed against each other, my team and Jordy Smith's team. They had to meet challenges both on and off the water. It was great fun! I'll let you find out!

The Private Sport Shop ambassador then stayed on in Europe, with a short stay in France in Paris, then Seignosse. "After Bristol, I joined the FFS in Paris for a three-day seminar at INSEP," she explains. "On the program: physical tests, meetings with Le Coq Sportif, the CNOSF and long sessions to talk about our Olympic organization and team cohesion. It was really inspiring to be at INSEP, surrounded by other sports and athletes". Discover the latest episode of the "With Jojo" series below.
