HOKA, an essential reference in the world of running, is now venturing into the world of hiking. With the Kaha 2, however, the brand proves that it also knows how to assert itself on other terrains. Combining comfort, lightness and impeccable grip, this shoe has everything to seduce demanding hikers. We tested it with Corentin, Performance Sales Manager at Private Sport Shop.

A trail runner for over two years, Corentin averages 70km a week, alternating between road biking and hiking.
His passion for the outdoors has led him to explore a wide range of terrain, from technical mountain trails to long road outings. He's always on the lookout for high-performance equipment capable of meeting the demands of all-rounders.
A HOKA fan for running, he was curious to see if the brand could transpose its expertise to a rando shoe.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS
The design comes as no surprise, reflecting the characteristic Hoka aesthetic that I personally appreciate. Several colors are available, and there's also a low-profile version.
From the moment you pick it up, the HOKA Kaha 2 impresses with its meticulous construction. Its Leather Working Group Gold-rated waterproof nubuck leather upper guarantees durability and resistance to the elements. What's more, the GORE-TEX waterproof membrane ensures optimum protection against moisture, making it the ideal choice for tackling muddy trails and unexpected showers.
The shoe's lightness is surprising for such a robust model. At around 500 grams per foot, it remains comfortable to wear even over long distances, limiting muscle fatigue. I didn't feel any discomfort after two 20+ km hikes in the Cévennes.

INTERMEDIATE FEET
Using Speedgoat 5 in trail running, I was eager to test the cushioning and comfort of the Kaha 2. It incorporates a dual-density EVA foam midsole, effectively absorbing shock and offering excellent energy return. It also features a HUBBLE® heel with SwallowTail™ geometry. The result: a fluid, low-impact stride, even on rough terrain. For me, the Hoka promise is kept, the cushioning and support are more than good.

outer sole
As for the outsole, HOKA doesn't do things by halves. The Kaha 2 is equipped with a Vibram® Mega-Grip outsole with 5 mm Traction Lug lugs. In my opinion, the grip is irreproachable on all types of surfaces: rock, mud, snow or dry ground. Whether climbing or descending, I didn't encounter any stability problems. Absolute confidence in the shoe.

MY OPINION General
I didn't necessarily expect HOKA to shine in the hiking world, but the Kaha 2 ticks a lot of boxes. Its exceptional cushioning, reliable waterproofing and all-terrain grip make it a formidable option for hikers looking for comfort and performance. After several test outings, I can say that this shoe is a real success. It's just as suitable for a short outing in the forest as it is for a multi-day expedition in the mountains.
Note that the Kaha 2 is made responsibly, without PFCs, and uses a special GORE-TEX fabric for footwear with recycled textile.
