Of the 40 sailors taking part in the next Vendée Globe, 11 will be equipped by Musto. The brand has worked with each of them to offer them the best protection as they tackle the Everest of the seas.
A key player in the world of sailing, Musto works with a prestigious panel of sailors. Brand ambassadors include Armel Le Cleach, Clarisse Cremer, Charlie Dalin, Jérémie Beyou, Louis Burton and Violette Dorange. As the Vendée Globe gets underway on November 10 from Les Sables-d'Olonne, Musto is closely involved with the sailors taking part in the ultimate solo sailing event. 11 skippers will set sail equipped by the brand created in 1964 by British engineer and sailor Keith Musto. A member of his country's Olympic sailing team, he left Tokyo with a silver medal, and soon began manufacturing revolutionary technical sailing garments. These quickly became regarded as the best on the market and were naturally adopted by the world's most renowned sailors.

"Ever since our founder, Keith Musto, worked with sailing legend Conny van Rietschoten to develop offshore equipment for his victory in the Whitbread Round the World Race in 1981/82, Musto has continued with the same approach: listening to and working in collaboration with its ambassadors," explains Nick Houchin, the brand's marketing director. 50 years after its birth, Musto is still there close to sailors, as will be the case again on this 10th Vendée Globe in history. "When you prepare with victory as your goal, you want to be the best in all areas. Musto perfectly meets our specifications," explains Charlie Dalin, who will be taking part in his second Vendée Globe this year, and will be one of the race favorites.
The skipper of the IMOCA Macif Santé Prévoyance will be able to count on several essential items for a non-stop single-handed round-the-world race. These include the HPX Gore-Tex Pro Ocean jacket, HPX dungarees and garments featuring GORE-TEX Pro technology, which guarantees optimum protection against the elements while offering excellent breathability. "I really like the HPX GORE-TEX Pro Ocean dungarees. It's both lightweight and robust, which keeps me dry and allows me to move around easily," confirms the 40-year-old skipper. "When I'm in the cockpit of my new boat, I'm better protected against the elements than before."
In addition to the cold and the water, today's new generation of IMOCA boats also need to protect themselves against impacts due to the high speeds they can reach. To this end, Musto has collaborated with Armel Le Cléac'h to develop a jacket and pants with 3D elbow and knee protection, designed to absorb impacts. And when the weather warms up again, the HPX Windstopper jacket and merino underlays will be just the right Musto gear for the conditions.
