6 steps to creating your Strava Art

What is Strava Art or GPS-drawing?

Strava is not only THE social network for sports enthusiasts, it's also a platform where the most creative have fun customizing their routes to form drawings.

#Stravart or #GPSdrawing is the art of drawing while running or riding. A practice increasingly common on activity-tracking apps like Strava. The Instagram account strav.art lists the most beautiful drawings created with the Californian application.

This new art form is on the rise, with thousands of enthusiasts around the world. Such is the case of the now famous Anthony Hoyte who has several works of art on Strava to his credit. For example, he rode for 13 hours and 19 minutes to create this incredible Santa Claus.

6 steps to successful Strava Art

  1. Imagine and draw on paper the design you'd like to create. A little tip: it's always easier in the city.
  2. Use your favorite mapping app (Google Maps, My Maps, Strava Map...) and adjust your route to suit the map.
  3. Think about the total distance of your route. Keep in mind that the aim is to make training fun.
  4. Identify key points on your route, such as traffic lights, intersections and roads to follow.
  5. Load your itinerary onto your GPS watch or smartphone.
  6. Open Strava and record your activity by following the itinerary.
