Axel Allétru, former European and world BMX champion and motocross runner-up, saw his life turned upside down at the age of 20 after an accident at the Latvian Grand Prix in 2010 left him a paraplegic. Refusing to give up, he took up handisport swimming and twice became French champion, setting records in the 50-meter butterfly and 50-meter crawl.
After six years of swimming, Axel realized another dream: to take part in the Dakar Rally. With a dedicated team and a vehicle adapted to his disability, he became the first disabled person in the world to win a category ahead of the able-bodied.
He doesn't stop there: Axel also returns to motorcycling to take part in the Enduropale du Touquet, once again demonstrating his unfailing determination.
It's a powerful testimony to resilience and self-transcendence that he delivers today. We listen to him.
